Much of the success of U.S. Army Air Corps airmen during the Second World War was due to the training that they received before deployment. It was the job of the professionals assigned to the 316th Bombardment Squadron to prepare B-17, and later in the war, B-29 crews for combat. Based in Washington State, Oregon, Utah, and Florida, the 316th gave heavy bomber crews the skills that they would need to run the gauntlet over Japan and occupied Europe.
This Aeroplane Apparel Company ball cap honors the contributions made by the unsung heroes the 316th Bombardment Squadron during WWII. A heavy bomber flies directly toward you out of a sky blue field. In the foreground, a huge red bomb falls to the earth, symbolizing the accuracy with which the men of the 316th Bombardment Squadron carried out their task.
The Aeroplane Apparel Company Monogram is prominently displayed on the back of this hat.
